The newest poker room that opened in Florida last month, Best Bet Jacksonville, has surpassed expectations by leading the state in revenues in its inaugural month of action.
According to the Florida Times-Union, Best Bet Jacksonville pulled in the most revenues for the month of March of the 24 poker rooms in the state. Times-Union writer Roger Bull reports that, during the month of March, Best Bet Jacksonville pulled in gross receipts of $1,328,261, eclipsing the Isle Casino and Racing poker room, which earned $1,304,344. In the state of Florida, the rake is 10% of a pot or a $5 maximum, demonstrating the popularity of the newest room in the Sunshine State.
Worst poker room I have ever played in. The floor managers are the rudest, meanest, and most disrespectful to the poker players anywhere in the poker world. GenesisG90 01/28/18. Stay away, they will take your money. I think it’s very rigged here. Slow waitresses. Unprofessional managers and dealers. The Bestbet Casino has only a poker room with different variants of poker including Texas Hold’em, Seven Card Stud, Omaha, Omaha High Low 8 or Better, 5 Card Omaha, Seven Card Stud High Low Split and H.O.R.S.E. Jacksonville is a city in Jacksonville in Florida (FL) in Duval County. The population of the city is 842,000. The 12-event series from January 17 – 26 with a $200,000 guarantee $1,100 main event will take place at their Jacksonville location, the largest poker room in Florida.
Bull reports that the excellent month by Best Bet Jacksonville came at the expense of two other, older establishments in the area, however. The Orange Park poker room earned over $1 million in February, but saw its gross revenues fall to $616,000 in March. Likewise, the St. John’s poker room saw its gross revenues decline to $213,000 from its February take of $407,000. This won’t worry the ownership of Best Bet Jacksonville, Jacksonville Greyhound Racing, however; the group is the owner of all three poker rooms in the Jacksonville area.
“I think any time any company opens a new location, you’re going to see somewhat of a shift in business,” Bull quotes Michael Munz, a spokesman for Jacksonville Greyhound Racing, as saying. Bull also said that Munz is expecting that there will be some leveling of the numbers as the newness of the Best Bet Jacksonville facility wears off and some players head back to their familiar haunts.
The success of Best Bet Jacksonville shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone in the Florida area or the poker industry. With its 70 tables, Best Bet Jacksonville became the largest poker room in the state the moment that it opened its doors. In addition to offering a wealth of poker action, the 144,000 square foot facility also offers pari-mutuel betting on horse and greyhound racing, giving players something else to do while on the grounds.
According to Deborah Giardina, the poker room manager of Best Bet Jacksonville, the poker room is a boon to the Jacksonville area. In an interview last month with News4Jax.com, Giardina said the poker room employs 200 people, from dealers to floor staff and waitpersons, with the average job earning $50,000 per year. In addition to this employment influx, the surrounding area’s restaurants, gas stations, hotels and the other businesses in the Regency Square Mall (where Best Bet Jacksonville is located) should expect to see a rise in revenues also, according to Giardina.
The Jacksonville poker room, the largest in Florida, hosts 89 poker tables at all limits, an expansive simulcast wagering facility, and an array of food-and-beverage service that includes one of the leading sushi bars in Northeast Florida. The bestbetLIVE set is also located in bestbet Jacksonville.
The poker world will get its first impressions of Best Bet Jacksonville a little bit later this month. Following the conclusion of the Seminole Hard Rock Showdown in Hollywood next week, Best Bet Jacksonville will play host to the World Poker Tour. The WPT Best Bet Jacksonville Open will begin on April 27 with the first of two Day Ones. The $5000 event is expected to bring in many of the players that are currently in action at the Hard Rock and the tournament has placed a guarantee of a $1 million prize pool on this event.
The WPT Best Bet Jacksonville Open will be one of the events taped for broadcast during the Season Ten television schedule of the WPT and it is being given the full treatment from WPT officials. The tournament’s eventual champion will not only walk off with the inaugural title from the event but also will receive a seat to May’s WPT World Championship at the Bellagio in Las Vegas and have their name etched onto the WPT Champions’ Cup, an honor that is only bestowed on full-fledged WPT championship tournament victors.
With a thriving live poker scene in Florida, it may be surprising to learn that the state hasn’t legalized online poker yet. Florida has numerous popular poker rooms but is still struggling to gain traction for real money online poker.
As one of the most populated US states, adding the Sunshine State to the list of legal online poker states would be a major game changer. With 21.5 million people, Florida would be a massive addition for the US online poker industry. That would be a huge number of players to be part of an interstate compact – especially if it eventually grows to include online poker in Texas or online poker in California.
Even if that doesn’t happen, Florida is more than double the size of New Jersey, which was the first legal online poker state, and has almost 9 million more than Pennsylvania, which launched online poker last year. If online poker is legalized in Florida, it will be a traffic and revenue leader in the industry.
How far is Florida from actually having legal online poker? While there are numerous casinos and live poker rooms in the state, steps toward any form of online gaming haven’t yielded any results yet. But poker overall has boomed since the state upped betting limits to $100.Best Florida Online Poker SitesWith a Verified Account. With no state-licensed options as of 2020, your next best option for “real money” online poker in Florida is Global Poker. Global Poker is a sweepstakes poker site that operates legally through sweepstakes licensing, which we’ll explain more below.
At Global Poker you can play for both play money (Gold Coins) or what are called “Sweeps Coins,” which can ultimately be exchanged for real cash prizes.
Sweeps Coins are allocated when you buy sets of Gold Coins, and then can be used for specific “SC” tournaments and ring games. They can also be exchanged for real money. What games can you play at Global Poker?

*Grizzly Games
*Rattlesnake Open

*Home Series
Numerous satellites and buy-in ranges are offered during its major tournament series. Some of those series even included added promotions, such as an opportunity to represent the brand at a live tournament event.
Many festivals also include a season-ending Tournament of Champions plus impressive trophies for every winner. Players can also expect big guarantees during these tournament series.
For example, the 2020 Summer Series featured a guarantee of SC2,135,000. That’s a huge amount paid out to players and that guarantee was beaten – attracting more than 18,000 players and paying out SC2,270,000. That was a nice extra SC135,000 paid out.Sweepstakes Poker for Real Money

Beyond Global Poker, there is another option to play free online poker in Florida. Real money poker sites, (which you can find legally in four current legalized states: New Jersey, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Delaware), also offer play money games and tournaments which you can access for free
Most famous among them, of course, is international poker juggernaut PokerStars, which currently offers real money poker games in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Poker players in Florida won’t be able to access any real money games but can download and play free games from the PokerStars.net client. The PokerStars software is widely considered the best in the business and makes it very easy for primarily live players to transition to online fairly seamlessly.
PokerStars also has some unique features that make it particularly appealing for playing free games online. That includes its Home Games option. If you’re among the thousands of poker players forced to find an alternative to a weekly live home game during the pandemic, you can set up your very own league and tournaments to play online poker with friends.
Other major online poker site brands, including partypoker, World Series of Poker (WSOP) and 888poker, offer similar free-to-play platforms. If the software is available in Florida, players can create an account at these sites and play free games at home or on their phone.
If you have an account at a licensed online poker site and travel to any legal online poker state (NJ, PA, NV, DE; soon to be WV and MI), you can switch over to real-money poker as easily as making a deposit and jumping into any game.Online poker with friends in Florida
As mentioned above PokerStars also offers the opportunity to play free money online poker with friends. The Home Games feature allows a group of friends to get together for some poker action online at the .NET site.
Setting up a poker club is simple. After setting up an account, log into PokerStars.net and look to the right side of the lobby. Click on the three buttons at the bottom giving you more options.
Once selected, click on “Home Games” and then on the option to create a poker club. Give the club a name and create the invitation code for players you want to invite. This is a password so other players can join the club.
The new poker club is now ready for players to join and start playing with friends. Invite your friends with the name of the club and invitation code.
PokerStars will send you an invitation via email making it easy to forward to other players. As club manager, there’s one added step – you’ll then need to approve players once they’ve joined.
At PokerStars Home Games, you can also personalize your club with different colors and images. When players are approved and ready to hit the table, the club manager can schedule tournaments and cash games. In cash games, you can also set the table stakes.
A nice feature on PokerStars Home Games is that you and your friends can play a wide variety of games beyond Texas Hold’em – from Seven Card Stud to Badugi to Eight-Game Mix. These games are also available for cash games and you can customize your own settings including:
*Buy-in
*Number of seats per table
*Game type (regular, rebuy, knockout)
*Blind levels
*Game speed
PokerStars has gone the extra mile in the Home Games feature. Club managers can make announcements on the club site, set up leaderboards, track event results, and more. PokerStars Home Games can make for a fun and easy way to gather at the online tables. On Deposit100% up to $600 Match Bonus OfferCasino and Online Poker Partnerships in Florida
So far, as mentioned, real money online poker and real money online casino games haven’t been legalized in Florida. Players will have to wait a bit to see any movement on the legalization front.
If any future were modeled after legislation in other states, expect to see some casino properties in the state partner up with some major operators. Major players like those mentioned above – PokerStars, WSOP.com, partypoker, and 888poker – would be interested in such a large poker market.
Seminole Hard Rock is a likely casino partner for online poker sites as is bestbet Jacksonville.Which poker sites are illegal in Florida?
Since Black Friday, when the Department of Justice shut down and seized a few major offshore poker sites, there are still some illegal, offshore sites offering online poker to players in the US. This isn’t legal, however, and these companies are operating outside legal jurisdictions without facing regulations that legal US sites face.
Slow payouts and missing funds are frequent complaints at sites like this. Legal, real-money online poker and casino operations in the US must undergo licensing and approval by state gaming commissions.
This ensures player funds are secure and you can be assured of a safe and fair online poker site. Offshore sites don’t face the same level of scrutiny and licensing that legal American sites undergo.
Until Florida becomes a legal state, play-money online poker at real-money sites remains an option for players.Online Poker Bonuses in Florida
One of the best things about playing legal online poker in the US is that poker sites go out of their way to reward new players. This can include free money simply for creating an account.
Deposit bonuses gives you extra cash simply for making that first deposit. This can equate to hundreds or even thousands of dollars. For those looking to jump in the action and claim a bonus at Global Poker, the sign-up process is simple. Players will need to provide some basic information like:
*Name
*Address
*Email
*Phone number
*Username
*Password
You may also be asked to provide a copy of your driver’s license or some other legal identification for security reasons. Once that’s complete, you’re ready to go. You can begin playing for Gold Coins to get a feel for the platform. If you’re ready to add some Sweeps Coins to the mix, simply head to the cashier to purchase additional Gold Coins and you’ll receive some Sweeps Coins as a bonus.
